Lecture by Prof. Guenter Lewy

March 13, 2007: Prof. Guenter Lewy, Professor Emerithus from the University of Massachusetts delivered a lecture titled the "Ottoman-Armenian Question". The lecture that took place in KSG's Malkin Penthouse attracted diverse number of visitors, including the students as well as the representatives of Armenian diaspora in USA.

During his lecture Prof. Lewy described the situation during the last days of the Ottoman empire as well as the actions taken by the Ottoman officials towards the Armenian population. Particular emphasis was made on the fact that there is no credible evidence of a particular hostility against the Armenian population. Prof. Lewy highlighted that the sufferings of the last days of the Ottoman empire were equally shared by all minority groups living in the Ottoman empire as well as the Turkish population. During his lecture Prof. Lewy mentioned about the trade blockade imposed on the Ottoman empire by the British army, which prevented the flow of food, thus causing a mass starvation among the entire population of the Ottoman empire. Prof Lewy's lecture was followed by the Q&A session.
